Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer II (New Product Development) to join the Electrical Wiring Systems Team in Syracuse, NY
. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and improvement of new and existing products. These activities must support the company's goals of increasing market share and profitability through creativity and innovation.
- Work with the Marketing Product Line Manager to develop product specifications and gain consensus on design with marketing and manufacturing. Determine appropriate codes, standards, testing requirements, end user preferences/trends, and competitive product analysis.
- Create sketches, 3D files, and prototype designs to express all different options used to satisfy product requirements. Evaluate concepts to choose the best design based on customer requirements and create final 3D models, assemblies, and drawings using Solid Works and other CAD software.
- Work with our patent attorney to avoid patent infringement and protect Pass & Seymour's intellectual property through patents.
- Collaborate with Electrical Engineers to integrate Electrical Circuits (Printed Circuit Boards) into product designs.
- Refine and complete product design through modeling, prototyping, testing, analysis, piloting, and inspection of processes and first articles. Work closely with Advanced Manufacturing, Tool Shops, and Manufacturing to procure prototype and production product components.
- Produce and update necessary documentation to support production, including engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and quality requirements and testing.
- Manage projects to rapid and effective completion, bridging departmental gaps.
- Perform other similar and related duties as required.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) minimum
Experience: 5–10 years of relevant experience preferred
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities- Product design experience with electro‑mechanical assembly design, injection molded component design, and progressive die stamped component design.
- Experience designing products for low cost and high‑volume manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software; experience in Solid Works preferred.
- Proficiency with CAD / Engineering Document management tools such as Solid Works EPDM.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations and evaluate designs; experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) preferred.
- Creativity in developing new or revised product design concepts.
- Strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software, email, and web‑based resources.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, effective listening, and ability to validate understanding.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills, close attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of ISO
14001 and Eco Design Principles. - Ability to design products to meet UL requirements.
- Ability to work with Electrical and Software Engineers to design internet‑connected products (IoT).
