Career Opportunity
Solvay Mill is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with the ability to apply a wide range of design experiences and mechanical engineering expertise to capital projects throughout the mill operations.
How you will impact West Rock- Evaluating the performance of mechanical and electromechanical systems to determine best options for replacement.
- Effectively managing large capital projects to enhance mill productivity.
- Meeting with project stakeholders to develop project needs and provide engineering/technical support.
- Establishing requirements for engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations to execute projects.
- Developing scope, schedule, and budget plans for assigned projects.
- Preparing and publishing detailed scope, schedule, engineering, construction, and commissioning plans.
- Managing project documentation from inception through implementation and closeout.
- Ensuring projects stay within scope, schedule, and budget targets.
- Preparing and submitting project progress reports as required.
- Providing engineering and technical support to mill operations and maintenance departments as requested.
- Planning and arranging required support services such as electrical, control, mechanical, civil, and other engineering requirements.
- Identifying, planning, soliciting, and arranging construction and startup services for project implementation.
- Occasionally supporting larger project teams to facilitate completion of larger projects.
- Conceptualizing, documenting, distributing, procuring, and expediting construction services for assigned projects.
- Providing mechanical/civil engineering support for other project managers as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 5‑10 years of experience in Project Engineering/Construction Management;
Process and Piping System design a plus. - Pulp/Paper manufacturing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of instrumentation, pumping systems, paper machine auxiliary equipment, and PLC/DCS Controls preferred.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to influence others and support overall business goals.
- Ability to prepare and manage projects from conception through development and execution.

Salary range: $123,200 – $184,800 per annum (base salary). Actual salary may vary based on skills, experience, credentials, time in role, and geographic location. Additionally, a broader salary range of $115,500 – $192,500 is anticipated for this position depending on level and location.
