Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Senior Fire Alarm Designer to support our Corporate Support team in East Syracuse, NY. In this role, you will lead the design, coordination, and execution of complex fire alarm and life safety systems across plan & spec and design-build projects. This role is a senior technical authority responsible for code-compliant system design, estimating, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong code knowledge, and the ability to translate project requirements into clear, buildable, and approvable designs—while supporting sales, project teams, and AHJ engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering Leadership

  • Serve as the technical lead for fire alarm and life safety system designs, including complex networked fire alarm systems, BDA (Bi-Directional Amplifier) / ERRCS, and integrated life safety solutions.
  • Interpret and apply NFPA 72, IBC, local amendments, and AHJ requirements to produce fully code-compliant designs.
  • Perform detailed code reviews, system calculations, device placement, riser diagrams, and sequence of operations.
  • Develop permit-ready, construction-ready design packages using AutoCAD; utilize Revit when applicable.
  • Create comprehensive estimates for fire alarm and ERRCS systems from plan & spec and design-build documents.
  • Support sales and pre-construction teams with conceptual designs, scope clarification, value engineering, and risk identification.
  • Identify constructability challenges early and recommend optimized solutions that meet code and budget requirements.

Project Execution & Coordination

  • Collaborate closely with project managers, field leadership, technicians, prefab teams, and engineers to ensure design intent is executed accurately.
  • Lead coordination with AHJs, consultants, engineers of record, and other trades to resolve design and code questions.
  • Respond to RFIs, submittal reviews, and design revisions with clarity and urgency.
  • Help establish and enforce design standards, best practices, and documentation consistency.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of workflows, tools, and design processes.
Required Qualifications
  • FCC GROL (General Radiotelephone Operator License)
  • Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 72, IBC, and local fire and building codes
  • Ability to produce accurate, detailed estimates for both plan & spec and design-build projects
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interface with AHJs, clients, sales, and field teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with integrated life safety and low-voltage systems
  • Prior leadership, mentorship, or design authority role
  • Experience supporting multi-site or large-scale projects
