Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesStandards-aligned instruction (Indiana Visual Arts Standards)
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate instruction aligned to Indiana Academic Standards for Visual Arts (K-5).
- Use anchor standards and clear learning targets to guide daily instruction, unit design, student practice, and feedback.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and instructional teams to design art-integrated learning experiences that strengthen ELA and math standards while preserving the integrity of visual arts outcomes.
- Reinforce ELA through purposeful speaking, listening, reading, and writing connected to art (for example: artist statements, vocabulary development, content-rich discussion, and short writing tasks). Indiana’s course descriptions explicitly note dialogue, reading, writing, and rich vocabulary as part of the learning experience in elementary visual arts.

- Establish a safe, inclusive, well-managed environment that supports productive risk-taking, collaboration, and respectful critique.
- Teach and enforce safe use, care, and storage of art tools, materials, and equipment; follow all safety and health expectations related to art media and processes.
- Maintain inventory and supplies; organize materials and physical spaces to maximize learning time and student independence.
- Participate in professional learning, PLCs/grade-level collaboration structures, and school improvement efforts.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues, administrators, families, and community partners.
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, ethical conduct, and confidentiality consistent with school corporation expectations.
