Biology, Adjunct Faculty
Onondaga Community College, located in Syracuse, NY, is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system and one of 30 community colleges sponsored locally throughout New York State. Our institution, sponsored by Onondaga County, offers two-year degree programs that facilitate transfer to four-year colleges or direct entry into the workforce. We also provide certificate programs typically completed within one year.
As a diverse educational community, we are dedicated to fostering an environment that recognizes and encourages individuality, contributing to the vibrant campus culture. We serve the educational and economic development needs of the region and proudly boast over 40,000 alumni.
We seek enthusiastic and engaging adjunct instructors for day, evening, and weekend classes. Need varies each semester (ongoing recruitment), often for instructors qualified to teach courses such as Anatomy & Physiology (BIO-171 and/or BIO-172), Introductory/non-majors biology (BIO-105, BIO-106, BIO-121), or General Biology (BIO-151/152). Occasionally, opportunities may arise to teach Microbiology (BIO-205) or Ecology (BIO-131).
Instructors typically teach both lecture and laboratory components, developing their own course materials (lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams) under the guidance of senior faculty, following college-approved outlines for learning outcomes and grading scales. Teaching assignments usually include a lecture section meeting twice weekly and one or two lab sections meeting once weekly with the same student cohort.
