Job DescriptionABOUT OUR DISTRICT
The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and she is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of educators to partner with her in moving the district toward its goals.
The Syracuse City School District represents 35 schools and programs, including 6 high schools, 6 middle schools, 6 K-8 schools, 13 elementary schools, and 4 alternative education programs, serving approximately 19,000 students Pre-K–12. Of these students, 82.3% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 20.1% are served by the Office of Special Education, and 83% are students of color.

Distingushing Features of the ClassThe work involves responsibility for directing visitors to governmental offices and giving information concerning business conducted by those government agencies. This is routine work involved in giving directions and answering questions relating to the location or nature of business of governmental agencies. Employees in this class must be courteous in dealing with the public and be able to give verbally information clearly.
Employees in this class do not exercise supervision.
Gives information verbally to the public regarding the location and function of government agencies.
May give information to the public over the telephone regarding the location and function of government agencies.
May place and receive telephone calls and route information as necessary.
May act as messenger for governmental agencies.
May maintain bulletin boards and furnish offices and meeting rooms as necessary with supplies.
May perform routine, elementary clerical tasks while stationed as information aide.
When Assigned to the Onondaga County Health Department:
Participates in public health preparedness activities as trained and assigned.
Utilizes appropriate methods for interacting effectively and professionally with persons of all ages and from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial and ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, lifestyles and physical abilities.
Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal CharacteristicsGood knowledge of functions and layout of government offices to which assigned.
Ability to give information verbally.
Ability to relate well with the public.
Minimum QualificationsNone.
Working Hours & SalaryThis position will work 35 hours per week, 10 months per year. This position is nonexempt.
Salary/Compensation: The current starting salary for this position is $29,843 per the Unit 9 contractual agreement.
Qualifications & Application Notes- The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check, at the cost of $102.50 to the candidate.
