Job Summary: The SUNY Syracuse EOC is part of a system of educational enterprises serving eligible adult learners. Founded over 50 years ago, the mission is to provide urban communities with innovative academic programs leading to higher education and vocational training for gainful employment and economic self-sufficiency.

Make a meaningful difference in a student’s life! Adult education teachers and tutors help bridge the gap for Americans marginalized by limited education and a job market demanding advanced skills. Many students have had negative prior educational experiences. The EOC provides support services such as the EOC Tutoring Center.

The EOC Tutoring Center offers a supportive environment where students practice skills needed for academic success. Tutors assist in various subjects to deepen understanding, prepare for exams like the GED, or for self-improvement. Instructional strategies are employed to address individual needs and build confidence. Online tutoring via the Virtual Tutoring Lab is also available.

For Fall 2023, the EOC Tutoring Lab seeks tutors qualified in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Math, and Science. Preference is given to applicants qualified and willing to tutor multiple subjects.

This position is off campus at the EOC Center: 100 New Street, Syracuse, NY 13202.

Minimum Qualifications: Must be a current student at Upstate Medical University approved for financial aid through the Student Financial Aid office.
