Overview

Syracuse University invites applications for the endowed Thomas and Colleen Wilmot Chair in Civil and Environmental Engineering. The candidate will lead research and education initiatives, build interdisciplinary collaborations, and expand the department’s impact.

Responsibilities
  • Build an internationally recognized, externally funded research program that complements the strengths of the CEE department.
  • Organize multi-disciplinary, multi‑institutional groups to compete for center‑ and/or institute‑level funding.
  • Participate in and lead collaborative educational programming on campus, including sustainability and climate change topics.
  • Lead research and service initiatives with potential impact at the community, state, national and/or international level.
  • Teach in the civil and environmental engineering program at undergraduate, graduate or joint levels.
  • Supervise thesis/dissertation research of Master’s and Ph.D. students.
  • Mentor junior faculty.
  • Active participation in the academic life of the department.
Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate (Ph.D. preferred) in engineering or a closely related field.
  • Record of excellence in academic research meriting appointment at the level of full Professor.
  • Experience securing external funding from highly competitive grant competitions and leading multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Distinguished record of scholarly achievement or technological innovation complementary to the department’s strengths.
  • Compelling vision for building an internationally recognized program at Syracuse University.
  • Demonstrated experience building and leading multi‑disciplinary teams, including academic‑industry‑government collaborations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, diversity, and accessibility.
