The Assistant Director for Disability Support Services works under the direction of the Director for Disability Support Services to facilitates/coordinates the delivery of accommodative services, manages the day-to-day operations of the office, and assists in development and maintenance budget and public relations (internally and externally). The position involves representing the office at various functions and direct contact with prospective and current students, their families, faculty, staff, administrators and the community.
The ability to maintain confidentiality with highly sensitive information is essential. The Assistant Director will also learn and support the director in understanding physical and programmatic access issues across.
Job duties specific to this position:
Note-taker Software & Assignment
- Manage note taking software and graduate student/ administrative staff that support this service.
- Provide professional development and support staff with assigning and removing students from the note taking software.
- Develop and maintain effective systems to support this process.
- Keep abreast of current trends and best practices in order to make improvements
Student Testing
- Supervise the GA Testing Coordinator and assign workload to alleviate the number of exams to be proctored and additional administrative work
- Prepare, schedule, proctor and return to the professor exams completed in the DSS office.
- Develop and maintain effective systems to support this process.
Faculty Liaison
- Meets and collaborates with students, faculty and staff to identify academic barriers and negotiate reasonable accommodations to enable students' full participation in the classroom environment.
- Act as a resource for faculty and staff providing training on complex issues related to the provision of services for disabled students; educate faculty and staff on compliance with federal and state regulations as needed.
Collaboration and Partnerships
- Collaborates with EASE team members regarding student issues and concerns, internal procedures and processes, external communication, and services.
- Collaborate with other areas within the Division of Student Development and other offices across campus as needed.
- Represent the College and/or institutional committees and task forces as deemed appropriate.
- Interact with student services departments to ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to enrollment services, campus activities, financial aid, in-person and online courses, and other student success initiatives.
Education and Support
- Participates in professional development, workshops and conferences regarding disability-related issues
- Conducts on-campus presentations regarding disability to promote a more inclusive campus environment.
- Serves as a point of contact for Disability Support Services at various tabling's and committee meetings.
- Serve as a resource for the Office of Admission and at prospective student request, provide general information about the process to register with Disability Support Services.
- Provide support and assist in the retention of Le Moyne College students, particularly those served by Disability Support Services.
Supervision
- Hire, train, and supervise graduate/work study students, providing clear direction and oversight.
- Hold regular meetings and provide feedback useful students to facilitate continuous improvement with goal of mastery.
Assessment and Evaluation
- Manage ongoing confidential data collection and analysis.
