Construction Superintendent Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Superintendent to join our team for an exciting, high-level construction project. This role is based in Syracuse, NY, and involves overseeing the first phase of a major multi-billion-dollar advanced technology development. As a Construction Superintendent, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of the project, which encompasses civil/site work, land clearing, infrastructure development, and more.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the day-to-day coordination of trade contractors and their sub-contractors to ensure high-quality work that meets the approved project schedule.
  • Develop, document, and communicate the work plan regarding changes made in the field.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents to proactively anticipate potential problems.
  • Verify that subcontractors obtain all necessary permits for construction purposes.
  • Establish credibility among owners, trade contractors, unions, and other project partners by maintaining a fair and trustworthy environment.
  • Act as primary safety representative in the field and enforce safety compliance with all trades.
  • Lead contractor meetings on a regular basis.
  • Maintain daily reports and documentation using software tools.
  • Create, manage, and update the project schedule, implementing contingency plans when necessary.
  • Communicate schedule status, updates, and changes to the project team and trade contractors.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage jobsite logistics.
  • Develop the Quality in Construction (QIC) plan in partnership with the Operations Excellence team, oversee the plan and implement necessary changes.
  • Communicate with Site Services/Next 150 to order materials and schedule crew.
  • Train direct report Field Engineers and Superintendents on project needs, construction knowledge, and business acumen.
  • Review and support writing scopes of work and participate in buyout.
  • Assist in Time and Materials (T&M) tracking.
  • Lead stretch and flex, daily huddle, and pre-task plan reviews.
  • Assist in general requirements financial forecasting.
  • Collaborate closely with business development to ensure seamless integration with sales strategies.
  • Train direct reports on processes, procedures, and completion of daily tasks.
  • Manage workload and performance of direct reports, ensuring alignment with overall company standards.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment to motivate and engage team members.
  • Aid in communicating company and department strategy to direct reports.
  • May be required to assist with tasks typically assigned to more junior positions.
Essential Skills

  • 7-12 years of experience leading a component of work or whole project for a value of $30 million or larger on commercial/industrial construction project(s) in a superintendent role
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other industry-standard construction software tools
  • Construction-document and drawing literacy, with knowledge of all phases of construction
  • Experience and proficiency in all divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control
  • Familiarity with Pull Planning Process
  • Strong knowledge and appreciation of construction safety processes and ability to enforce the project safety plan

Work Environment

The work environment is based on-site in a field trailer, with the option of working from a downtown Syracuse office. The project involves a rotating schedule with five days of work per week and rotating Saturdays.
