Safety Coordinator
O’Connell Electric Company is seeking a Safety Coordinator to support our Syracuse and Albany worksites. Frequent travel and occasional overnight stays are required. This role may involve fluctuating working hours, including evenings and weekends. A valid driver’s license and passing the Company Driver qualification requirement is mandatory.
The Safety Coordinator assists our safety team in ensuring a safe working environment for all workers on construction sites throughout our service areas. The Safety Team monitors safety performance at client construction sites across the region.
Core Responsibilities- Implement and oversee safety programs, policies, and procedures to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries.
- Conduct site safety visits and audits.
- Create safety documents, training, and briefings; schedule training and meetings; review safety audits for accuracy and proper filing.
- Participate in incident analysis, record keeping, and developing corrective actions.
- Create job project-specific safety plans.
- Identify hazardous conditions and develop mitigation steps.
- Deliver new‑hire orientation and safety training.
- Develop safety education material.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders on safety‑related initiatives.
- Stay current on industry trends and best practices.
- Participate in training and career development opportunities.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong people skills; effective verbal and written communication.
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Comfort with holding difficult conversations with the workforce and leadership when necessary.

- Willingness to work in inclement weather, nights, weekends, and travel as required.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and ability to create effective PowerPoint presentations.
- Strong presentation and training skills.
- Technical aptitude to learn and master company‑specific programs.
- Minimum of a High School diploma or GED.
- Basic understanding of applicable safety standards.
- 1–3 years of experience in commercial general and/or electrical construction, or utility safety experience (preferred).
- OSHA and/or NFPA coursework or certifications (preferred).
- Ability and desire to obtain safety accreditations such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite / Microsoft 365.
- Ability to develop PowerPoint or equivalent presentations.
- Technical aptitude to learn and master company‑specific programs.
The minimum and maximum annual salary for this position is between $62,500 and $74,000. Actual compensation will depend on geographic location, skills, experience, complexity, travel, and market rate.
