Qualifications
- 2 year Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy (Required)
- 1 – 2 years Respiratory Therapy (Preferred)
- Georgia Composite Board license Respiratory Care Professional
- National Board Respiratory Care (NBRC) Registered Respiratory Therapist
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Life Support (PALS) obtained within 12 months
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP)
- Pediatric Life Support (PALS) obtained within 120 days
PERFORMANCE OF INVASIVE RESPIRATORY PROCEDURES
- Perform invasive procedures including endotracheal intubation
- Place arterial line insertion after competency check
- Follow correct policy for invasive procedures
- Use Difficult Intubation cart and Glidescope for difficult intubation
ASSESSMENT, TREATMENT AND REEVALUATION
- Provide or recommend care based on patient condition and needs
- Identify expected outcomes and plan based on diagnoses
- Treat patients and families with compassion and follow physician orders
- Adapt communication style and listen to patient needs
- Recognize age‑specific responses to treatment
- Provide effective interventions
- Respect patient confidentiality, privacy and cultural needs
- Modify expected outcomes based on assessment changes
MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION
- Accurate medication and dosage to correct patient at correct time
- Check patient orders before acquiring meds from Omnicell
- Give and receive accurate handoff
- Pull meds from Omnicell and place in plastic bag with correct sticker
- Identify patient, drug, dosage and time by scanning armband
- Operate medication devices following correct technique
- Keep medication bags in large clip board until given
USE OF ELECTRONIC DOCUMENTATION SYSTEMS
- Become competent at accurate and efficient documentation in an electronic system
- Accurately document all pertinent information regarding patient services rendered
- Make corrections to errors following proper time frame and process
- Document services rendered as soon after as possible
MECHANICAL VENTILATION
- Complete competency validation and effective orientation to mechanical ventilation before placing and operating ventilators
- Oriented for set up and ventilator management before operating on patients
- Demonstrate knowledge of ventilator management, weaning, discontinuation, troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
- Adhere to hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines
- Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with core values, mission and vision of the organization
- Perform other duties as required and complete all job functions per departmental policies and procedures
- Maintain current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (self education, ongoing educational programs)
- Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory in‑services and competency evaluations on time
- Demonstrate competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs
- Attend training and demonstrate usage of age‑specific customer service skills
- Wear protective clothing and equipment as appropriate
