Each year, highly trained graduates join their colleagues as Coast Guard officers to provide services that are critical to Canadians.

Intent of the process

EDUCATION:

ED1:
Diploma in Marine Engineering from a Canadian Marine Training Institute ; ORED2:
Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering Technology Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation, Electronics and Control Engineering ; ORED3:
Relevant Occupational Certification (Instrumentation and Monitoring, Controls or Electrical)

EXPERIENCE:

EX1:
Experience in monitoring machinery and carrying out maintenance and repairs
EX2:
Experience in managing and training technical staff

Applied / assessed at a later date

COMPETENCIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education (Asset):
AED1:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Education.
AED2:
Certification in adult education

Occupational Certification (Asset):
AOC1:
Certificate of Competency, Second-Class Engineer (or higher), Motor Ship, or combined issued by Transport Canada.
AOC2:
Certificate of Competency (STCW) as Electro Technical Officer.

Experience (Asset):
AEX1:
Teaching experience in the field of engineering
AEX2:
Teaching experience in Electro technology and High Voltage
AEX3:
Experience as Chief or Senior Engineer on Canadian Coast Guard vessels
AEX4:
Experience as Chief or senior engineering Officer on merchant marine vessels
AEX5:
Experience as Electrical Officer on Canadian Coast Guard or merchant marine vessels

Knowledge (Asset):
AK1:
Knowledge of lesson plan development

Abilities (Asset):
AAb1:
Ability to plan, organize and implement program activities.
AAb2:
Ability to use and apply technology in the preparation of course material and in teaching.
