CBCL is seeking a Mechanical Engineer or Engineer in Training to join our team in Sydney, NS! Help us shape our work environment and culture by collaborating with other design and construction professionals on challenging building projects. Through all stages of the building design process, let your passion for sustainable design principles shine through by delivering exceptional results for our clients.

As our ideal candidate, you have experience with designing building mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, building systems controls and commissioning, as well as energy efficiency and renewable energy design and assessment. You are a motivated self‑starter who is excited to participate with an established team of professional engineers and technologists in developing innovative multidisciplinary building design solutions, with an emphasis on client satisfaction and design practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist a design team to prepare contract documents for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building systems controls
  • Design new construction and renovations of building projects such as healthcare administration, laboratory, assembly, recreational and residential facilities
  • Coordinate design support staff across multiple disciplines
  • Manage projects to meet budget and deliverables
  • Meet and liaise with clients
  • Assist with business development and proposals
  • Perform construction administration and field reviews
  • Document, plan, and conduct commissioning and start‑up activities
Capabilities and Credentials
  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer in Canada with eligibility for registration with Engineers Nova Scotia
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience designing mechanical systems for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings
  • Additional professional accreditations such as PMP, LEED AP, etc. are an asset
  • Familiarity with designing mechanical systems using AutoCAD and Revit
  • Detail‑oriented, organized, hardworking, with a team‑player attitude
  • Performs well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites within Atlantic Canada
