Lead Manufacturing Engineer
Location:
Sycamore, IL
Salary: $90,000-$110,000
LHH Recruitment Solutions is currently seeking a Lead Manufacturing Engineer to join our client's organization in the Sycamore, IL area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of machine programmers across multiple manufacturing sites.
- Establish and maintain standardized programming practices, documentation protocols, and quality guidelines.
- Oversee CNC programming operations (Sigma Nest experience preferred) to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and safety.
- Support automation initiatives, new equipment installations, and capital improvement projects.
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to troubleshoot design and manufacturing challenges.
- Manage program version control, optimize toolpaths, and maintain post‑processor accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations (OSHA, NFPA 79, ISO).
- Provide training and mentorship on new technologies, programming methods, and equipment.
- Translate 2D/3D engineering drawings into machine‑ready programs for cutting and routing processes.
- Continuously improve programming speed, precision, and material utilization.
- Document programming procedures and maintain organized CNC file libraries.
- Identify and implement the most efficient manufacturing methods to support production goals.
- Promote strong safety practices and quality control standards across all programming activities.
Key Qualifications:
- 3+ years of CNC programming experience in a manufacturing environment (5+ years preferred).
- Proven experience programming 3‑axis and/or 5‑axis CNC machinery.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and CNC programming software (Sigma Nest preferred; Sheet Cam, CAMPlus, or CAMProX a plus).
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD models, and technical schematics.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem‑solving capabilities.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with cross‑functional teams.
- Ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast‑paced production environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles, time studies, Six Sigma tools, FMEA, DOE, and DFA.
- Strong project management abilities and comfort working under tight timelines.
- Demonstrated ability to develop creative, efficient programming or process solutions.
