Group Leader Conservation Biology 80% (f/m/d)

The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) seeks a Group Leader to head a research unit focused on biodiversity and conservation biology. The position is part of the ETH Domain and aligns with the WSL Strategy 2035.

• Lead a research group of 15–20 researchers and support the activities of national data centres (lichens, fungi).
• Acquire third‑party funding and manage applied research projects.
• Bridge the gap between research and practice, publishing results in scientific and applied journals.
• Engage with authorities, expert commissions and stakeholders in nature conservation.
• Possibly contribute to teaching at ETH and/or universities.

• Doctorate in biology or environmental sciences with a successful career in conservation biology or restoration ecology.
• Strong expertise in organismic biology and field/lab species determination methods.
• Track record in developing and funding research projects and in publishing findings.
• Experience leading research teams, including PhD students, Post Docs and technicians.
• Good communication skills; fluency in English and proficiency in at least one Swiss national language.
