Extended Nurse

Start Date: July 6 – August 14

Position Summary: The ESY Nurse is a Registered Nurse position (RN) for a summer school program.

Supervisor: The ESY Nurse is directly responsible to the Nurse Coordinator.

• Minimum 3 years of nursing practice. Experience with pediatrics, school nursing, emergency care and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
• Current license and registration as a Registered Professional Nurse granted by the NYS Department of
  
  Education:
  
  Bachelors degree preferred. Current certification in BLS/CPR for Healthcare Professionals.
• Demonstrates broad knowledge in the use of health assessments, nursing diagnoses, care plans, intervention procedure, referral resources and follow-up care as applicable in the school setting.
• Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills, including but not limited to electronic medical records, email, word processing and spreadsheet use on Microsoft and/or Google formats.
• Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
• Specialized health procedures, such as diabetes, tracheostomy and gastrostomy care.
• Provides skilled nursing services to students with special health and developmental needs, including medication administration and specialized medical procedures, such as tracheostomy and gastrostomy care.
• Responds to health related emergencies, including first aid and CPR.
• Manages chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, seizure disorders, gastrointestinal disease and cardiac disorders.
• Provides consultation and assistance regarding specific student health needs.
• Provides health-related educational support and training to unlicensed personnel.
• Accompanies classrooms on field trips as needed for medical services.

As per current Educational Support Association Agreement (ESA) as well as education and experience.
