This position will provide services to Early Childhood students.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree from an accredited college/university for speech pathology

Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) issued by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)

Valid Mississippi educator license issued by the Mississippi Department of Education’s Office of Licensure with necessary endorsement to be “Highly Qualified” as a Language/Speech Pathologist

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Specialist or doctoral degree in speech pathology

REPORTS TO

Principal, Special Services Director, and/or Designee

JOB GOAL

To provide appropriate therapy services for any student with one of the following disorders: language, voice/resonance, fluency, articulation (speech sound disorders), and swallowing (when educationally relevant) by working across all levels of school services.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Assesses students accurately according to current State Department guidelines and assists in preparing Assessment Team reports for all students referred for special services.

Coordinates speech/language programs within and between schools served.

Engages in on-going Child Find process.

Develops and implements an appropriate Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each identified speech/language student.

Maintains documented, confidential files on students.

Plans educational programs for coming year and make budget requests based upon need.

Keeps accurate travel log to justify travel expense.

Keeps accurate inventory of materials/equipment.

Assists in the Assessment process for all students.

Demonstrates program management skills.

Uses screening and referral techniques.

Obtains and uses diagnostic information.

Plans for students and maintains records.

Uses therapy approaches and materials.

Stimulates and interacts with students to enhance student performance.

Uses evidenced-based interventions and therapy.

Agree and obligates to successfully meet the State Department of Education and district requirements for staff development.

Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities that may from time to time be assigned by the Principal, Director of Special Education and/or designee.

Working conditions are normal for an educator in a classroom environment. In accordance with the Language/Speech Pathologist Work Day Calendar and current salary schedule as approved by the Board of Trustees.

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of Board policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
