Required Qualifications

Applicants must hold the proper educational credentials, certifications, and experience to serve as Speech/Language Pathologist Assistant for Jacksonville School District #117 or alternatives approved by the Board of Education. Minimum requirements include:

  • Completion of a two-year IDFPR-approved program in speech‑language pathology assisting to qualify for a speech‑language assistant license.
  • Successful passage of the licensure test and payment of the application fee.
  • A valid speech‑language pathology assistant license, required in any Illinois setting.
  • Completion of 10 hours of continuing education every two years (renewal cycle).

Knowledge & Skills

  • Read, analyze, and interpret professional periodicals, journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
  • Work with mathematical concepts and apply them to practical solutions.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Apply current research and theory to instructional program.
  • Plan and implement lessons based on District and school objectives and the needs and abilities of assigned students.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Perform all duties with awareness of District requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Regularly sit and occasionally walk and stand.
  • Close vision is required.
  • Ability to hear conversations in quiet or noisy environments and differentiate between bells, buzzers, etc.
Duties and Essential Job Functions
  • Participate in teacher and parent conferences, including multidisciplinary conferences, IEP meetings, and annual reviews.
  • Implement IEPs for all students eligible for special education and related services in speech and language impairment.
  • Provide in‑service programs to parents, teachers, students, administrators, and other professionals.
  • Complete required documents and reports.
  • Participate on child study and teacher assistance teams.
  • Facilitate curriculum and instructional modifications.
  • Participate in continuing professional education.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
