Lead Robotics Engineer – We seek a professional with proven experience ready to lead R&D and product development, turning robotic concepts into robust production systems.
About MESHMESH is a robotics startup based in Birr (AG), Switzerland, dedicated to automating rebar construction. We enable autonomous handling, placement, and joining of rebar.
Construction requires high flexibility for varying geometries, batch sizes, and tolerances. We provide this adaptability using advanced software, computer vision, and specific robotic manipulation for rebar.
Our systems are deployed in prefabrication environments, successfully converting manual labor to autonomous production.
About the RoleAs Lead Robotics Engineer you will architect software frameworks and control strategies, leading a small team and defining our technical roadmap.
Your responsibilities include bridging high-level software and hardware execution, ensuring reliability for 24/7 operation, and overseeing the full lifecycle from sensor selection to deployment.
What You’ll Be Working OnYou will lead development and testing of robotic systems for rebar handling, quality control, tying, welding, and auxiliary equipment.
Your work will include:- Computer Vision
: develop pipelines for robust object detection in variable lighting and dusty environments. - Motion Planning
: implement advanced multi-robot motion planning for collision-free, high-speed operation. - Architecture
: design a modular, scalable robotics stack for rapid iteration across product lines.
- Team Leadership
: guide engineers, provide mentorship, and ensure project milestones are met. - Strategic Decision Making
: evaluate trade-offs between hardware and software to solve automation problems. - Sensor Integration
: assess and implement sensor suites (3D vision, force‑torque, etc.) to enhance perception. - Productization
: ensure R&D outputs are production‑ready for maintenance and service. - Collaboration
: work closely with Mechatronics and Sales to align tech developments with customer needs.
- Education
:
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or related field. - Experience
: 3+ years in robotics with proven deployment of software on hardware. - Software Stack
:
Proficiency in C++, Python, ROS/ROS2 in a Linux/Docker environment; knowledge of software engineering best practices. - Robotics Fundamentals
:
Strong grasp of state estimation, motion planning, and control theory. - AI & Vision
:
Practical experience with Deep Learning frameworks (PyTorch/Tensor Flow) and OpenCV. - Industrial Hardware
:
Experience with industrial manipulators (e.g., ABB/Rapid) and 3D vision systems. - Mindset
:
Ship-to-production mentality prioritizing reliability over academic complexity. - Languages
:
Working proficiency in English;
German/French is a plus.
