Position OverviewThe Speech Teacher, also known as a Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP), is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and providing treatment for students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. The role requires collaboration with teachers, parents, and school administrators to support students' communication abilities and ensure their success in the classroom. The Speech Teacher will work with students across various age groups, from preschool to high school, in both general and special education settings.
Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive speech and language evaluations for students referred by teachers, parents, or other professionals.
- Identify students with communication disorders that affect their educational performance.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment results and student needs.
- Provide individual or group therapy sessions for students with speech and language disorders.
- Utilize evidence‑based practices and interventions to improve communication skills.
- Monitor and adjust treatment plans as necessary to meet students' evolving needs.
- Provide strategies and resources for teachers and parents to support communication development outside of therapy sessions.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to ensure alignment between speech therapy goals and academic instruction.
- Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, challenges, and strategies for support at home.
- Participate in IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings and contribute to the development of IEP goals related to speech and language.
- Maintain accurate records of student evaluations, progress notes, and treatment plans.
- Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to meet district, state, and federal regulations.
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with trends, methodologies, and advancements.
- Collaborate with fellow staff to share best practices and enhance the overall experience for students.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

- NYS Teaching Certification in Speech and Language Disabilities
