Primary PurposeEnables students to continue their education with minimal interruption in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
QualificationsEducation/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of the Cleburne ISD Substitute Orientation Process
- Interpersonal skills to work well
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively
Experience:
- Some experience working with children
- Reports to the building principal [school secretary] upon arrival at the school building.
- Reviews with the principal, department head, or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
- Teaches the lesson outlined and described in the lesson plans as prepared by the absent teacher.
- Provides a written summary of work completed at the end of each teaching day and leaves it for the regular classroom teacher.
- Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
- Maintains effective classroom management and supports the building-wide standards and policies for safety.
- Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
- Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during teacher assigned locations and times.

Equipment UsedCopier, personal computer, and audiovisual equipment
Working ConditionsPhysical Demands: Moderate physical activity, which includes standing, stooping, bending, lifting, walking, and moving small stacks of books and other classroom equipment.
Communication: Ability to communicate (verbal and written).
Instruction: Ability to instruct students.
Emotional Control: Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
Decision Making: Ability to make rational and quick decisions.
