Job SummaryThis class is accountable for facilitating learning, academic achievement and personal development by providing instruction to students. This class also develops and implements curriculum and lesson plans, utilizes technology to facilitate learning, and demonstrates understanding of the varying learning styles and the needs of a diverse student population.
Minimum Qualifications- Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
- Valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate/endorsement for Grades 7-12 (029).
- Conditional on possession of a valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate/endorsement for Grades 7-12 (029).
- May be required to possess and retain a current Motor Vehicle operator’s license.
- Background investigation may be conducted prior to appointment.
- Knowledge of core curriculum areas for which the teacher is responsible, including mathematics and related subjects.
- Knowledge of educational philosophy, teaching methods, and best practices.
- Knowledge of child development, classroom management techniques, instructional technologies, and learner outcomes.
- Knowledge of learning theory, student learning styles, multicultural and disability inclusive curriculum concepts.
- Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Scientific Research Based Interventions (SRBI).
- Excellent listening skills and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to evaluate student performance and present evaluations to foster higher achievement.
- Ability to plan and implement lesson plans based on district and school goals and student needs.
- Ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse student populations.
- Ability to work in a cooperative learning environment and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to multi-task and be flexible.
- Advises, assists, and supervises students with internships, volunteering, and community service projects.
- Evaluates student performance through examinations and other methods, maintains required student records, and submits required reports.
- Implements the goals, objectives, and standards of the District, the school, and the specific program or department.
- Develops, adapts, and updates curriculum; implements lesson plans.
- Maintains contact and communication with parents and schedules parent conferences.
- Participates in staff development and professional growth activities, mentors new teachers.
- Performs classroom management duties, enforces school rules, contributes to a positive learning environment.
- Coordinates co‑curricular and extracurricular school activities, participates in bus, lunch, and playground duties as required, attends staff meetings, serves on committees.
- Provides instruction in core curriculum, uses instructional resources and technologies, collaborates with other teachers, volunteers, and staff.
- Supports students with special needs, assists with IEPs, coordinates mainstreaming and planning teams.
- Performs related duties as requested.
Physical Requirements
Employees appointed to this class must maintain adequate physical strength, stamina, and visual and auditory acuity. A physical examination may be required. Duties include standing, walking, sitting, and handling instructional materials.
