Job DescriptionThe 504 Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and other federal programs to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This position works closely with staff, students, families, and community organizations to promote educational equity, support student needs, and maintain proper documentation for federal program requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and manage all Section 504 plans, ensuring timely and accurate development, review, and implementation of plans for students with disabilities.
- Collaborate with special education teams, teachers, administrators, and counselors to provide support and accommodations for students under Section 504.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with federal regulations related to 504 and assist in preparing and submitting reports required by federal and state agencies, including funding applications and compliance audits.
- Provide training to school staff and administrators on the legal requirements and best practices for 504 compliance.
- Serve as the primary contact for parents, guardians, and external agencies regarding 504 plans.
- Develop and maintain documentation systems to track 504 plans and accommodations.
- Analyze data related to student performance and program effectiveness to ensure continual improvement and to identify areas of need.
- Stay informed about changes in federal and state regulations that may impact the 504 program and federal funding.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Previous experience in education, special education, or federal program coordination.
- Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), and other federal programs and laws.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people, including students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
- Attention to detail and strong record-keeping abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification or training in special education or related field.
- Experience working with federal programs and grants.
- Familiarity with data management systems for tracking student progress and compliance.
