Job Description

The Hallsville District, a four-day calendar school, is accepting applications for a special education learning specialist for the  school year. We provide employees with paid health benefits and life insurance options.

Purpose

Design and implement educational programming for students with disabilities. Administer assessments, write Individualized Educational Plans, and create curriculum to support a variety of student abilities. This position requires excellent people skills and the ability to collaborate with paraprofessionals, service providers, and general educators.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the designated locations and times, both individually and collaboratively.
  • Conduct evaluations, write IEPs, and monitor the progress of the caseload of students.
  • Plan and implement a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all students using data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students.
  • Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon the supervisor’s request.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Physically lift students with assistance and perform Crisis Prevention Intervention.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons and units.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the location and the needs and capabilities of individuals or student groups.
  • Collaborate with administrators, colleagues, and parents in a positive and productive manner.
  • Implement the District’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Evaluate student learning problems, seeking assistance from District specialists as needed.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records required by law, District policy, and regulation.
  • Assist with implementing policies on student life and conduct and develop classroom rules fairly.
  • Make staff available for education‑related tasks outside instructional time when required.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides or volunteers where applicable.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as needed.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Hallsville Public School District.

Qualifications

Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree;
Valid Missouri teacher certification in special education.
