This project will be based at Swansea University, under the supervision of Dr Emma Kenyon and is a collaboration between the Sheffield Hearing Research Group and the University of Swansea.
Sheffield Hearing Research Group is a collaborative team bringing together renowned experts in physiology, genetics, developmental biology, stem cell biology, and computational neuroscience. Our mission is to advance the understanding of the auditory system and pioneer therapeutic interventions for hearing loss. The group emphasizes interdisciplinary research and innovation to address key challenges in auditory health. We are committed to making a meaningful impact on individuals affected by hearing impairments.
Responsibilities
The role will involve production of zebrafish mutants, analysis of zebrafish behaviour and expression and proteomic analysis of cupula genes in the laboratory of Dr Emma Kenyon at Swansea University Medical School and 2‑photon calcium imaging and micro phonics at the University of Sheffield in the laboratory of Professor Walter Marcotti.
Qualifications
A PhD in Neuroscience, Developmental Biology or equivalent disciplineEvidence of active engagement, personal role, and contribution to writing and publishing research papers, particularly for refereed journals.Evidence of the capacity for active engagement in designing research and writing, or contributing to writing, applications for external research funding.Ability to demonstrate significant independence of focus and direction in research - determining 'what, why, when and with whom' to progress work.Experience working with zebrafishAbility to conduct and analyse behavioural experimentsEvidence of advanced microscope skills (e.g. confocal, 2 photon, TEM)Fluency in molecular techniques (e.g. genotyping)Willingness to travel to and stay in Sheffield to conduct experimentsA commitment to continuous professional developmentExperience with micro phonics or electrophysiologyExperience producing genetically modified zebrafishFamiliarity with proteomic analysisHome Office Personal licenceExperience of supervising undergraduate or postgraduate student projects#J-18808-Ljbffr
