The electrophysiology service at the Morriston Hospital are looking for the next Electrophysiology Fellow to join the department. Post is to commence in August 2026 for 6 months until February 2027 only. The service has developed rapidly since its inception in 2007. Annual activity for includes 700 device implants and 350 ablations.
The EP fellow is the senior trainee in electrophysiology and is actively encouraged to participate in all of these procedures. Because the onsite ablation service has only been operating since 2007 there is a good volume of conventional ablation for accessory pathways and AV nodal tachycardia, in addition to the ablation of complex arrhythmias. There will also be an opportunity to train in novel and emerging device implantation techniques including His bundle pacing and leadless pacing.
Mainduties of the job
The post will be based at the Regional Cardiac Centre at Morriston Hospital. It will be suitable for an applicant who holds a National Training Number and is within one to two years of completion of their training programme, or equivalent.
Applicants will be expected to be proficient in diagnostic coronary angiography, and standard pacing techniques.
The training fellowship will last for 12 months and the successful applicant will have at least 7 fixed sessions allocated to electrophysiology procedures, complex device implantation and sub‑speciality outpatient clinic. The remainder of the timetable will be committed to supervising the clinical SpRs and SHOs on the ward, audit and research interests the successful candidate might wish to pursue. The candidate will be encouraged to participate regularly in the EP breakfast and MDT, presenting educational cases to the department and engaging in difficult clinical decisions.
Procedures will be performed under the supervision of one of the consultant electro‑physiologists. For candidates whose main interest in device therapy there is a large volume of procedural experience to be gained and the opportunity to develop skills in newer techniques including His pacing and S‑ICD. For candidates with an interest in ablation the post provides exceptional experience in conventional and complex ablation, giving a great opportunity to consolidate your understanding of the mechanisms of arrhythmias, and their diagnosis.
