Design Manager

Location: Wales

The Opportunity

An opportunity for an experienced Design Manager to lead and coordinate the design process on complex civil engineering and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects, typically delivered under design and build contracts.

This role suits someone from either a design consultancy or contracting background who understands how to manage design risk, coordinate multiple disciplines, and ensure designs are practical, compliant, and aligned with commercial and delivery requirements.

The Role

* Managing the design process across civil and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects

* Coordinating internal and external design teams across civil, mechanical, electrical and process disciplines

* Managing design delivery in line with programme, budget, and contractual requirements

* Ensuring designs are buildable, compliant, and aligned with construction methodology

* Supporting feasibility studies, options appraisals, and concept design development

* Managing outline and detailed design stages for design and build projects

* Reviewing design outputs, identifying and managing design risk

* Working closely with project, commercial, and site teams to support successful delivery

* Supporting temporary works design coordination

* Acting as the key point of contact between design teams, clients, and delivery teams

Essential Experience & Skills

* Experience across all aspects of civil engineering projects, from either a design or contracting background

* Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or similar), or equivalent experience

* Strong understanding of design and build delivery and the commercial drivers behind it

* Clear appreciation of programme, cost, and design-related delivery risk

* Full UK driving licence

Desirable Experience

* Experience undertaking feasibility studies, options appraisals, and concept design

* Experience managing outline and detailed design stages

* Broad knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Process)

* Chartered or Incorporated with a relevant professional institution (ICE, CIWEM), or working towards

* Temporary works experience
