About the Learning Support Officer Role

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a range of Secondary Schools and Alternative Provision settings across Carmarthenshire to recruit a dedicated Learning Support Officer. This rewarding Learning Support Officer role involves supporting pupils with additional learning needs and behavioural challenges, contributing to a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities of the Learning Support Officer

As a Learning Support Officer, you will:

Provide 1:1 and small group support for learners with additional learning needs
Assist in the implementation of Individual Development Plans (IDPs)
Work collaboratively with teaching staff to promote positive behaviour and engagement
Effectively manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour
Adapt to changing circumstances and individual pupil needs
Create a calm, nurturing and structured classroom environment
Support pupils in developing confidence, resilience and essential life skills
Encourage emotional wellbeing and active participation in learning

What We’re Looking For in a Learning Support Officer

The ideal Learning Support Officer will be patient, adaptable and confident in managing a dynamic classroom environment where no two days are the same.

Desirable

Skills & Experience:

Welsh-speaking
Experience supporting children or young people with SEN and/or challenging behaviour
Background in sports, coaching or youth work
Experience delivering consistent 1:1 or small group mentoring
Essential Qualities:

Resilient, calm and empathetic approach
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
Commitment to inclusive education and pupil development
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
Transferable skills from relevant professional backgrounds

Requirements

Teaching Personnel will support you through the compliance process. To work as a Learning Support Officer, you must:

Be aged 18 or over
Be registered (or willing to register) with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
Hold (or be willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
Complete Level 2 Safeguarding training
Provide two professional references covering the past 24 months

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
