Position: ABA TUTOR - SWAMPSCOTT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL-

Applied Behavioral Analysis Tutor

Reports To: Special Education Liaison, BCBA, and Building Administrator

Job Overview

ABA Tutors support students with autism and/or emotional disabilities in whole group, small group, and one‑to‑one instruction, in and out of the general education classroom. Students will require various types of assistance across their full school day including support with communication, social‑emotional behavior, academics, motor skills, and/or activities of daily living including toileting and eating. They are caring professionals motivated to work with students with disabilities, develop new skills through ongoing training, and work collaboratively.

Responsibilities

and Duties
  • Provide communication, social‑emotional behavior, academic, motor skills and/or support with activities of daily living (including toileting and eating) to students across all settings to support access to the school curriculum and achieve IEP goals
  • Follow explicit lesson plans including prompt hierarchies and/or behavior support plans and collect data under supervision of special educator, school psychologist, and/or BCBA
  • Contribute to a well‑organized, smooth‑functioning class environment in which students take full advantage of instructional program and available resources
  • Settings include general education classroom, special education classroom, playgrounds, cafeteria, hallways, field trips, special classes (e.g., gym)
  • Communicate effectively with all school staff and potentially family members
  • Provide a positive learning environment and encourage interest, enjoyment, appreciation, and curiosity in children
  • Work with individual or small groups to reinforce learning of material introduced by the teacher
  • Respect confidentiality of teachers, students, and families
  • Maintain knowledge of school routines, emergency procedures, and academic and social behavioral expectations
  • Assist classroom teacher or designee in fire and other emergency drills
  • Assist in management of students during dismissal, field trips, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by Principal and Special Education/Classroom Teachers
  • Attend professional development and staff meetings on scheduled days
  • Take responsibility and accountability for assigned tasks, projects, and duties while maintaining professional manner
  • Actively listen and respond in a respectful, non‑confrontational manner to others’ opinions, fostering positive attitudes in workplace
Qualifications
  • 4‑year college degree in related field or completed RBT (40‑hour professional development)
  • At least 2 excellent references
  • Pass required screenings (CORI, SAFIS fingerprinting, I‑9 eligibility) to work in U.S.
  • Experience working with children, preferably in educational setting
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills
  • Physically capable and willing to provide levels of support (modeling, coaching, verbal/visual/physical prompts) as required by student IEP
  • Additional qualifications may vary depending on assigned student’s needs
Physical Requirements

This position may require long periods of standing, walking, and sitting; talking or hearing in person and by telephone; using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reaching with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

The individual may be exposed to ultraviolet lights as found in computer monitors and copying equipment and to various building hazards. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
