A minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and meets certification requirements as established by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers as well as the Georgia Department of Education and the Local Unit of Administration (LUA).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PERMITS:Valid State of Georgia Athletic Trainer License and Georgia Professional Standards Commission certificate.

Incumbent must be able to provide a Criminal Background Check with results that adhere to Emanuel County Board of Education Policy GAK(1).
Incumbent must have knowledge of subject matter and appropriate instructional methodologies. Ability and training necessary to effectively utilize technology in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of instruction. Evidence of exemplary human relation skills. Evidence of exemplary organization and planning skills. Evidence of ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
ATHLETIC TRAINING PERFORMANCE FUNCTIONS:Demonstrates the ability to:
- Use tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
- Organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
- Work collaboratively with a broad and diverse population of students, families, peers and colleagues.
- Hold knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
- Hold knowledge and training in first aid procedures required for handling athletic related injuries.
- Be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature and air quality. Work surfaces will vary from concrete to grass to hardwood floors. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments.
- Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After hours work is required. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
- Be able to assist with or transfer athletes of various weight/heights.
- Be able to push carts with athletic equipment on them.
- Be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate to give adequate directions and instructions to subordinates.
- Be able to carry training kit and coolers for long distances.
- Responsible for prevention, emergency care, first aid, evaluation and rehabilitation of injuries to athletes under his/her care.
- Serve as a liaison between the team physician, the athlete, the athlete's parents and coaching staff.
- Consultant to coaching staff on conditioning, nutrition, and protective equipment.
- Assist with prevention of injuries including education for athletes and athletic trainers, identifying factors that put athletes 'at risk', correcting deficiencies in athletes as deemed necessary, as well as taping and bracing.
- Provide emergency care and first aid including availability of necessary equipment, communication procedures for emergency situation and prompt accurate triage.
- Evaluate acute and chronic injuries and refer to the team physician or specialist where appropriate. Help decide if a play may return to competition following an injury.
- Treat athletic injuries with protection, rest, ice, compression, evaluation, support, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, cold/heat and hydrotherapy as needed or prescribed with the availability of modalities.
- Develop, supervise, evaluate and modify individual exercise programs for rehabilitation to help athletes return to a pre-injury status.
- Maintain records including injury reports, home care instructions, referrals, treatments records, rehabilitation progress notes and insurance information.
- Secure training room equipment and supplies as needed.
- Provide education and supervision for athletes and students.
- Cover team practices allowing access to the athletic training room.
- Cover sporting events as scheduled with the athletic director.
- Establishment of a positive learning environment that promotes a high level of achievement for all students while considering the background and developmental level of individual students.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of reports, correspondence and notices.
- Maintains accurate and complete student documentation as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
- Attends conferences, workshops and other professional development to maintain current knowledge of the profession.
- Maintains appropriate levels of confidentiality.
- Collaborates with school personnel to develop school-wise initiatives to make schools safer and more effective.
