License and Certification Qualifications

Certification by state of Georgia as a school social worker required. Licensed Clinical?

Social Worker (LCSW) preferred.

Education Qualifications

Master's degree in social work required.

Experience Qualifications

Two years successful social work experience post master's level required.

Skills Qualifications

Knowledge of early childhood development, family dynamics, and crisis intervention; sensitive interviewing skills; ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbal; ability to collect and analyze data; strong organizational skills; ability to act as a representative of Gwinnett County Public Schools; and ability to work successfully with colleagues.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide direct casework, service coordination, and crisis intervention services to students, families, and local school staff and support the Director of Health and Social Services with departmental duties.

1. Provide casework and service coordination to students, families, and local school staff.

2. Collect and interpret school social worker data and reports.

3. Conduct home visits after consultation with administration and /or upon school social worker assessment to establish effective communication between the parent/guardian and school.

4. Works cooperatively as an interdisciplinary team member to provide services and to devise an appropriate service plan for referred students and their families.

5. Conduct appropriate home visits with school social workers to support the quality of service provided by the district.

6. Assist the Director of Health and Social Services and Lead Social Worker with departmental duties.

7. Meet and support with school social work staff with programmatic areas of Homeless, Foster Care, Attendance, and Enrollment/Withdrawal.

8. Collaborate with local schools to assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating social emotional issues impacting students.

9. Serve as the liaison between the schools and key community service agencies.

10. Compile and submit the program reports in accordance with departmental standards.

11. Organizes and conducts specialized programs to include parent training classes and student support activities.

12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

This is an itinerant position and requires travel between schools. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
