Are you an experienced or newly qualified nurse with an interest in general surgery?

Ward 14 Good Hope Hospital is an acute 29 bedded general surgical ward, also caring for some acute medical patients. We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic band 5's with the opportunity for growth and development.

We are a team of experienced and highly skilled surgical staff, making this a perfect learning environment for band 5's wanting to develop their skills or explore a new sector of nursing.

We deal with a wide range of elective and emergency patients, specialising in colorectal and lower GI, encompassing a myriad of complex nursing needs including parental nutrition, wound management and acutely unwell patients. There is a large MDT presence with both acute pain and colorectal CNS's closely involved in patient care, allowing for learning and teaching opportunities. We also have medical patients with a good medical team to facilitate care and management of these patients.

There are many opportunities for training and specialist skills days available across the UHB trust. As a teaching hospital, we have nursing and TNA's students regularly on the ward so mentoring training is encouraged. We are keen to support personal development with regular monitoring of skills and training to allow progression. We also have an educational team who will help in your transition to the ward.

You will be required work with in the NMC standards of nursing practice.

You will be looking after acute surgical patients, post operative patients, occasional medical patients.

Facilitating the patient's care plan and liaising with the wider MDT.

Supporting with the flow of patients throughout the hospital.

Working as part of ward 14 team.

The shifts are rotational, seven days per week. You will be required to work days and nights including weekend days/nights on a rotational basis, following a Trust Induction Programme and a Ward Orientation Programme on days, plus a band 5 preceptorship programme.

• Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to Professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register i.e. ( Adult / Child / Learning Disability or Mental Health)
• Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses / or post graduate continuing professional development for registered nurses who have post registration experience

• Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary health and care setting (can include undergraduate student placements within the last 12 months)
• Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
• Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct and the proficiencies and standards for registered nurses can apply this to undergraduate training or post graduate practice
