Role Overview

HCRG Care Group seeks a Community Carer to assist in providing high‑quality care to children with complex medical needs within the community and in their own homes. The role requires a compassionate, dedicated individual who supports children and their families, ensuring they receive the care and attention they deserve in a comfortable, familiar environment. Work will be flexible and duties may adapt based on evolving needs.

Base

and Schedule

• Base:
You will be based at one of our Surrey‑wide office hubs, working out in the community with the flexibility of hybrid working to support your professional and personal needs.


Schedule:

24/7 service with night shifts across the year, including weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, effective care to children in their homes and the community, as delegated by the Named Nurse.
  • Recognise safeguarding concerns and follow appropriate procedures.
  • Maintain competencies in specific clinical skills and be familiar with emergency procedures, including escalation and resuscitation when needed.
  • Support children’s development in partnership with families and the team across various settings.
  • Help maintain a safe, stimulating environment and record the child’s condition, taking appropriate action.
  • Organise daily activities and attend training and supervision sessions.
  • Complete the HCRG Care Certificate within 3 months (if required) and stay updated with relevant training.
  • Follow infection control and health & safety policies, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Communicate effectively, especially in situations with communication barriers, and liaise with the child’s care team.
  • Participate in team meetings, maintain accurate records, and support colleagues by sharing information and addressing concerns.
Essential Candidate Requirements
  • Understanding the impact of providing/receiving care in the home for children with complex medical needs and their families.
  • Ability to participate in training of new staff in a variety of settings.
  • Willingness to work towards “experienced to teach” part of the Competency Framework.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to relate to children.
Desirable Candidate Requirements
  • NVQ 3 in health or social care or recognised nursery nurse qualification.
  • GCSE in Maths and English.
  • British Sign Language level 1.
  • Makaton.
  • Experience of relevant clinical procedures and technology dependency.
  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience working with children with complex health needs.
  • Minimum of 1 year working with children in other settings, e.g. nursery, respite service.
Other Requirements

The successful applicant will need to have a full driving licence and access to a car for work purposes.
