Student Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated Special Support Assistant (SSA) with experience in hoist and personal care to work with SEND students. This role is crucial in supporting the personal and educational development of young vulnerable adults aged 16-19. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manual handling and experience with hoist operations, as well as a compassionate approach to the care of young adults.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Write and review short-term SMART targets and contribute to frequent reviews of learners' progress in education, social development, and independence, including at annual EHCP reviews.
  • Physically support learners when required, for example, pushing wheelchairs, using evacuation chairs, and other specialist equipment following training.
  • Support learners with all aspects of their personal and intimate care following training.
  • Assist in the storage and administration of medication as required, ensuring accurate recording and reporting of the process.
  • Set up and maintain learner's assistive technology and support them in its use as required.

Required Skills &

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in manual handling and hoist operations.
  • Previous care experience, particularly within a setting involving young vulnerable adults aged 16-19.
  • Ability to write and review educational and developmental targets.
  • Trained or willing to train in the administration of medication and the use of various assistive technologies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
