Join a dedicated team as a Communication Support Worker (CSW) in our Additional Learning Support Team.

This role offers the opportunity to provide essential communication support to learners with hearing impairments and additional learning needs, ensuring their full access to teaching, learning, and college life.Communication Support Worker

Day-to-day of the role of a Communication support Worker:

  • Provide accurate and professional communication support, including British Sign Language (BSL), Sign Supported English (SSE), lip-speaking, and written support.
  • Interpret between spoken English and BSL during lessons, tutorials, meetings, and wider college activities.
  • Adapt communication styles and resources to meet individual learner needs.
  • Encourage and support learners in developing independence, confidence, and self-advocacy.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to anticipate lesson content and adapt specialist terminology.
  • Support learners both in academic and social settings, promoting integration with peers.
  • Contribute to learner support plans, EHCP reviews, and progress monitoring.
  • Promote Deaf awareness across the college community.
  • Maintain confidentiality, impartiality, and professional boundaries at all times.

Required Skills & Qualifications for the CSW role:

  • Minimum of BSL Level 3 qualification.
  • Significant recent experience providing communication support in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of Deaf culture and inclusive practice.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents/carers, and external agencies.
  • Good IT skills to adapt and develop accessible learning resources.
  • Flexibility and resilience to support learners with a range of additional needs and behaviours.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to promoting equality and inclusion.
  • Enthusiastic, reliable, and self-motivated, with a commitment to continuous professional development.
