We are currently seeking a Park Technician (Athletic Fields) to join our team. This unique full‑time job opportunity will allow you to apply your varied work experience and skills to meet the challenges of managing our athletic fields. In this position you will perform supervisory and technical work in planning, coordinating, and supervising the work of crews and contractors. Working within the budget, this position is responsible for projects and programs, including preparation of plans, schedules, reports and inspections.

The Park Technician will perform hands‑on field work in all weather conditions, prepare annual and seasonal work plans for assigned functional responsibility area based on section goals and objectives; perform fieldwork in accordance with accepted standards, techniques and practices; manage programs and projects within approved budgets; and administer contracts for work with the Parks Division.

Union - CUPE Local 402 - Regular Full‑Time

• Completing advanced sports field and passive lawn irrigation maintenance, repairs, and system upgrades.
• This would include, but is not limited to the repair, renovation and replacement of park irrigation assets, as well as system programming utilizing the Rainbird Maxicom and IQ4 computerized central control programs.

• Can work independently, as well as in a team environment, and must be physically able to carry out the duties as required;
• Applies rigorous logical and analytical thought to trouble shooting and problem‑solving.
• Has superior public relations, interpersonal, communication, organizational, multitasking and leadership skills.

• Completion of a degree or diploma program in horticulture or relevant trades or related discipline from a recognized post‑secondary institution, with a minimum of 3 years related experience OR
• Completion of grade 12 supplemented by a relevant Trades Qualification supplemented by 3 years of related progressive experience OR
• Completion of grade 12 and a related Technical Certificate Program (one‑year full time) from a recognized post‑secondary institution with additional related academic courses and training supplemented by 4 years of relevant progressive experience.
• Valid BC Driver's License with safe driving record
• Related experience preferred will include sports field or golf course irrigation maintenance and construction. An acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
• Candidates must possess superior public relation and interpersonal skills including dealing with others in stressful situations, strong organizational skills and be physically able to carry out the duties as required.
