ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
This role reports to Layne Myhre
SUMMARYResearch Technician for the care and maintenance of aquarium systems and research fish colonies, including husbandry, breeding, and experimental research, including the supervision of undergraduate research students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Maintenance of laboratory aquarium systems, including water quality monitoring and control, emergency alarm response, and regular system maintenance.
- Feeding, care, and husbandry of small laboratory fish colony, including health checks, monitoring water quality, emergency response, maintaining stocks, genetic crossing and strain maintenance, and euthanasia.
- Experimental research including (but not limited to) embryo treatment and chemical exposures, fin biopsy and genotyping, fish microdissection and microinjection, microscopy and data collection.
- Supervision of undergraduate research students, including organization of breeding schedules and student lab/equipment access.
- Data analysis, including statistical analysis, image and video processing, research of the literature, and writing of research findings, including data tablesinia, and figures.
- Maintenance of research area, including organization and cleaning.
- B.Sc. in Biology or final year (a minimum of 90 credits and declaration in the Biology program).
- Specific training or work experience (at least 1 year) in the husbandry and care of small laboratory fishes such as zebrafish or medaka.
- Laboratory research experience, preferably including the techniques mentioned above.
- Good personal skills, organizational ability, research and work habits, preferably including supervision of other workers.
Anticipated hourly acuity rate: $23
