Position:
As a member of the inter-disciplinary team, the Foot Care Nurse works at full scope of
practice, providing advanced foot care services to PCN patients with diabetes and related peripheral
neuropathy. The Foot Care Nurse works autonomously in the provision of appropriate foot care
services, including assessment, nursing interventions and documentation, while working
collaboratively with the physicians to develop, implement and evaluate care plans.
Education/

Experience:

• Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) education program.

• Completion of an accredited Advanced Foot Care program.

• Current registered member in good standing with the College and Licensed Practical Nurses
of Alberta (CLPNA).

• 3-5 years experience in a nursing capacity, with Advanced Foot Care experience preferred.

• Experience in community-based care is an asset.

• Working knowledge of Diabetic disease process and relevant health issues affecting
mobility.
Skills/

Competencies:

• Use knowledge and expertise to provide advanced foot care to patients which includes
scheduling appointments, chart reviews, history-taking, assessments, interventions,
education on self-management, documentation and arranging for follow up and referrals if
indicated.

• Adhere to infection prevention and control standards: cleaning, disinfection, hand hygiene,
personal protective equipment.

• The ability to lead, take initiative, be a self-starter and independent learner and ability to
work independently; provide a leadership role in peer education.

• The ability to establish and nurture good rapport with patients, families, service providers
and professionals in the surrounding communities, and the ability to develop and maintain
collaborative and cooperative relationships in an interdisciplinary team, and with community
partners/stakeholders.

• Ability to apply appropriate level of computer skills for effective use of electronic medical
records.

• Excellent teamwork and relationship building skills.

• Excellent problem solving and judgement skills.

• Professional oral and written communication skills.

• Respect for privacy and confidentiality.
