Salary: CAD $41.42 - $59.52 per hour
Job Summary: This part‑time RN position provides nursing care in the Interventional Radiology unit at Surrey Memorial Hospital. The role involves pre‑ and post‑procedure assessments, collaborative care with physicians, and patient advocacy in a high‑acuity setting.
Responsibilities- Provides individualized nursing care to patients before and after interventional procedures, ensuring comfort and safety.
- Assists physicians during procedures, facilitates sedation, airway management, and monitors patient condition.
- Responds to critical situations such as cardiac arrest by initiating CPR or administering appropriate medication.
- Prioritizes care against fluctuating workload, coordinating with team members, and assesses patient readiness for discharge.
- Collaborates with peers to resolve patient/family issues, ethical dilemmas, and coordinates integrated care.
- Documents observations, patient perspectives, and activities in both computerized and paper records.
- Uses supplies and equipment safely, troubleshoots monitoring devices, and manages hazardous materials and sharps.
- Follows Occupational Health & Safety guidelines, reporting incidents and completing required reports.
- Participates in unit activities to improve care delivery, evidence‑based practice, and quality improvement.
- Reviews research literature and engages in approved nursing and interdisciplinary research projects.
- Mentors students, new staff, and provides guidance on clinical tasks; supports professional development plans.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Education, Training &
Experience:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Completion of a recognized high‑acuity specialty nursing certificate and at least one year of recent related high‑acuity experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to practice nursing within a high‑acuity setting.
- Assess patient responses and respond appropriately.
- Initiate and manage IV therapy and administer IV medications.
- Respond immediately to emergencies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of pharmacology and patient physiological reactions related to anesthesia and/or procedural sedation.
- Plan and implement care plans, adjust for unexpected events, problem‑solve, and set priorities.
- Work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and health‑care staff.
- Counsel and teach patients, families.
- Demonstrate leadership and independence.
- Mentor new staff and students.
- Proficient with clinical techniques and use of equipment in an angio/interventional setting.
- CPR expertise and use of cardiac monitoring equipment.
- Computer skills for a computerized patient‑care information system.
- Physical ability to perform the duties.
