On November 29, 2024, SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and command for policing and law enforcement in Surrey. POSITION OVERVIEW

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for Information Officers (Auxiliary) to join our Public Services Unit at headquarters and in various district offices. Reporting to the Manager of Public Services, the incumbents will perform a broad range of administrative support work involving the provision of information and assisting the public and other police agencies in various capacities. This position performs moderately complex and diversified work with minimal supervision that requires independent judgement and initiative within established SPS policies and guidelines.

SCHEDULE

/ HOURS OF WORK

To be eligible for this auxiliary position, incumbents must have flexible availability and be able to commit to a minimum of three (3) shifts per month. Shifts may include weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Assigned shifts may be prescheduled or by call‑in. The anticipated work schedule for the base full‑time position is 40 hours a week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides a wide variety of information and assistance to the public, other police agencies, and staff as required and directs public to applicable agencies for advice or action.
  • Deals tactfully and effectively with the public and multi‑cultural clients.
  • Acts calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Takes enquiries, explains rules, regulations, and procedures within prescribed limits.
  • Operates office equipment such as PC, photocopiers, and computer programs including but not limited to PRIME, LEIP, CPIC, PIRS and CNI computer terminals.
  • Receives and processes applications for, including but not limited to police certificates and permits, including taxi, private investigations, and issues certificates.
  • Processes requests for, including but not limited to, criminal record searches for security clearance, employment and immigration purposes, and pardons.
  • Accepts reported offences, decides type of offence, categorises, creates file, and refers for processing per policy and procedure.
  • Accepts and processes monies for all applicable fees, issues receipts, and balances cash receipts.
  • Fingerprints and/or photographs persons requiring such for job applications, visa applications, immigration purposes, bonding, and other security reasons.
  • Composes routine correspondence.
  • Examines motor vehicles to confirm ticket requirements have been met as per provincial Motor Vehicle Act and City by‑laws.
  • Assists in maintaining probationers’ attendance records/compliance with judicial direction to report to police regularly and prepares correspondence to appropriate reporting agency.
  • Accepts and processes found property turned into the front counter.
  • Provides SPS access to authorized visitors by issuing visitor tags or providing escort.
  • Assists in the development, maintenance, and implementation of policies and procedures for providing services to the public in consultation with the manager.
  • Complies with existing and new policy and procedures to maintain consistency of service.
  • May be required to give evidence in court.
  • May be required to train other personnel.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
