BC is looking for a skilled Financial Accounting Manager to play a central role in delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial information that supports both internal decision‑making, external reporting and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the Manager, Financial and Regulatory Accounting, you’ll lead core accounting operations, guide a high‑performing team, and collaborate across the business to support strategic initiatives, budgeting and forecasting activities, and regulatory filings.

This is an opportunity to influence financial processes, strengthen controls, and contribute to the financial integrity of Fortis

BC.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the full financial accounting cycle, ensuring accurate entries, timely reconciliations, and clear variance analysis for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strengthen and streamline accounting controls, systems, and procedures to improve accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Support the preparation and review of financial statements, MD&A, parent company reporting, and other key financial deliverables across multiple entities.
  • Partner with teams across the organization to provide accounting guidance under US GAAP and regulatory frameworks.
  • Contribute to the annual budgeting and forecasting cycle, ensuring alignment with regulatory filings and consistency with actual results.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of regulatory filings, including Annual Reports, rate‑setting submissions to the BCUC, and other required documentation.
  • Participate in quarterly and annual audits, manage auditor requests, and ensure adherence to SOX controls.
  • Maintain and govern the chart of accounts, ensuring compliance with internal policies and BCUC directives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff, including hiring, training, performance management, and workload planning.
  • What it takes:

  • A degree in Business or Commerce plus a recognized professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • At least 5 years of experience in financial accounting or reporting; experience in a regulated utility environment is an asset.
  • Strong technical accounting skills, ideally with experience in SAP.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory processes and rate‑regulated environments.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team‑development capabilities.
  • In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive, and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
