Director of Finance, North America

Location: Surrey, BC

Our client, a North American leader in the manufacturing and wholesale sector, is seeking an accomplished Director of Finance to lead the accounting and financial operations of a complex, multi entity business across Canada and the United States.

This is a senior leadership role for a finance executive with deep technical accounting expertise, strong operational discipline, and a proven ability to build scalable financial infrastructure in a high volume, multi site environment. While strategic insight is important, this role is firmly grounded in accounting excellence, controls, compliance, and execution.

What You Will Lead Accounting & Financial Operations
  • Own all accounting functions across North America, including general ledger, AR, AP, payroll, fixed assets, inventory, and cost accounting.
  • Ensure accurate, timely month end, quarter end, and year end close across multiple legal entities.
  • Maintain the integrity of financial records in accordance with US and Canadian GAAP.
  • Oversee consolidation of financial results across entities and jurisdictions.
  • Lead internal and external financial reporting for executive leadership and ownership.
  • Deliver accurate monthly financial statements with clear commentary on operational performance.
  • Coordinate audits, working closely with external auditors and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure consistent accounting policies, documentation, and reporting standards across the organization.
Controls, Compliance & Risk
  • Design, implement, and continuously strengthen internal controls and financial governance frameworks.
  • Oversee tax compliance and planning across multiple provinces and states, including coordination with external advisors.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, statutory, and corporate reporting requirements.
  • Lead financial risk management activities including insurance, credit exposure, and contractual financial review.
Systems & Process Excellence
  • Own the finance function’s use of ERP systems, ideally SAP Business One, ensuring data integrity and operational efficiency.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives that enhance accuracy, speed, and scalability of accounting operations.
  • Standardize workflows and reporting across locations as the business continues to grow.
  • Lead and develop accounting and finance teams across Canada and the USA, including Controllers and transactional teams.
  • Set clear expectations, develop talent, and build a high accountability culture within the function.
  • Act as a hands on leader who can dive into the details while maintaining executive level oversight.
Business Partnership
  • Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and Sales to support inventory management, costing, pricing, and margin analysis.
  • Provide practical financial guidance grounded in accounting reality to support operational decision making.
  • Support financial due diligence for contracts, capital investments, and strategic initiatives.
What You Bring
  • 15+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience.
  • CPA designation strongly preferred, MBA or advanced financial education considered an asset.
  • Deep expertise in US and Canadian GAAP, financial reporting, and multi entity accounting.
  • Proven experience leading accounting functions in a high volume, transactional, multi site environment.
  • Strong ERP experience, ideally SAP Business One, with a track record of improving systems and controls.
  • Solid understanding of corporate tax, inventory accounting, cost accounting, and working capital management.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and retain high performing accounting teams.
  • Hands on, execution focused leadership style with strong attention to detail.
  • Clear communicator with the confidence to act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.
