THE ROLE
STRIVE Recruitment is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a long-established, privately owned construction and development organization headquartered in Surrey, BC. Our client delivers complex, high-value projects and operates in a fast-moving, highly collaborative environment. They are now seeking a seasoned finance leader to step into a Vice President, Finance role and act as a key partner to the executive team as the organization continues to grow and evolve.
The Vice President, Finance will be deeply embedded in the business, working alongside the CFO, CEO, COO, and project leadership to influence decisions, guide investment, and ensure financial discipline across construction and development activities. The leadership team values accountability, trust, and people who take ownership. The finance function is seen as a true business partner, not just a reporting function.
The role offers real scope: visibility at the executive table, exposure to complex projects, and the opportunity to take on broader responsibility over time for the right individual.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic & Executive Leadership
Act as a trusted financial advisor to the CFO, CEO, COO, and senior leadership teamTranslate financial data into clear, practical insights that support decision-making and growthSupport long-term planning, scenario modelling, and major investment decisionsBuild strong relationships with lenders, auditors, development partners, and external advisorsFinancial Management & Governance
Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, reporting, payroll, treasury, job costing, and month-end closeEnsure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting across multiple entitiesStrengthen internal controls, governance frameworks, and risk management practicesEnsure compliance with tax, regulatory, and reporting requirementsBudgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow
Lead annual budgets, multi-year financial planning, and rolling forecastsDevelop dashboards and tools to monitor performance, trends, cash flow, and project outcomesProvide proactive cash management strategies to support construction and development activityConstruction & Development Finance
Oversee project costing, margin analysis, and financial performance throughout the project lifecyclePartner closely with Project Directors, Estimating, and Development teamsSupport contract review, procurement strategies, and vendor financial assessmentsContribute to development pro formas, land evaluations, and partnership structuresLeadership & Culture
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance teamPromote accountability, continuous improvement, and practical problem-solvingContribute positively to a collaborative, engaged, and high-performance cultureSKILLS & EXPERIENCE
This role is suited to a finance leader with extensive experience in construction or development and understands project-based businesses.
A CPA designation (required); MBA or advanced financial training is an asset10+ years of progressive finance experience, including leadership at the Controller, Director, or VP levelHands-on experience with construction accounting, job costing, cash flow forecasting, and financial modellingConfidence working with senior executives, lenders, and external partnersA practical, commercial mindset — comfortable making decisions with imperfect informationStrong communication skills and a collaborative leadership styleCompensation & Structure
