Work Methods Specialist - Civil Construction (full‑time, permanent)

Location:
Surrey, British Columbia
This field‑based role requires the successful candidate to travel to various job sites in the lower mainland of BC and occasional travel to the Okanagan region.

- Ensure consistent application of work methods standards, and HS&E practices within all operations
- Maintain an active presence in field operations, offering technical guidance on civil construction and/or powerline and utility construction activities inclusive of but not limited to:
- Crew visits, Pre‑Ground disturbance approvals and oversight, Site documentation (VSL’s, Site Observations, Tailboard Audits)
- Identify opportunities for training and development and equipment training
- Assist with PPE management and enforcement
- Coordinate and lead work teams or committees that set minimum corporate standards in work methods and execution
- Assist in the standardization of work methods and training, ensuring compliance with company and client standards including but not limited to:
- Actively participate in client‑required training
- Learn and understand client standards and processes, tailoring training programs and providing mentorship to crew members
- Assist with onboarding of new workers, deliver training, and track it following company programs and processes
- Proactively identify and mitigate high‑risk tasks before execution
- Use documentation and support compliance of the program with the crews and project management
- Establish and maintain programs that support civil construction and powerline, utility work activities
- Assisting with continuous improvement projects and other operational tasks, as required
- Ten (10) or more years of civil construction and/or journeyman powerline experience, mandatory
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in a supervisory or equivalent leadership position, mandatory
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License, mandatory
- Demonstrated knowledge in civil construction activities and heavy civil equipment operation
- Working knowledge of regulatory and legislative OH&S requirements, IEEE Standards, other related legislation, and industry best practices
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to direct a team to efficiently and effectively complete jobs within deadlines
- Willingness to accommodate frequent overtime hours and weekend hours when required
- Willingness to travel to various project locations as required
- Ability to provide an acceptable five (5) year Driver's Abstract
