ABOUTTHE ROLE
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the organization’s financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and effective payroll and compliance processes. This is a hands‑on role with exposure across general accounting, AP/AR oversight, payroll support, budgeting, and audit preparation, working closely with senior finance leadership.
RESPONSIBILITIES- General Accounting & Month‑End
- Oversee the general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month‑end close
- Ensure accurate classification and recording of AP and AR transactions
- AP, AR & Payroll Oversight
- Support AP processes, including cheque runs, approvals, and cash‑flow considerations
- Oversee AR processes, invoicing, collections, and responding to account inquiries
- Monitor aged receivables and follow up on overdue balances
- Assist with bi‑weekly payroll processing, pension contributions, and related reporting
- Internal Controls & Compliance
- Review and strengthen internal controls to ensure compliance with policies and regulations
- Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and mitigate risk
- Government Reporting & Audit
- Prepare and submit required government filings accurately and on time
- Prepare audit working papers and liaise with external auditors during year‑end
- Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
- Support annual budgeting and financial planning in collaboration with other departments
- Prepare forecasts, variance analysis, and financial projections to support decision‑making
- CPA designation or in the final stages of completion
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with exposure to full‑cycle accounting and payroll
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (not‑for‑profit experience is an asset)
- Experience with accounting systems and payroll platforms (Net Suite and ADP considered assets)
- Advanced Excel and strong overall MS Office skills
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Experience in non‑profit or real estate is considered an asset
- Professional, discreet, and service‑oriented communication style
- $80,000–$85,000 depending on experience
