Adelante Healthcare is hiring for the Medical Assistant (Pediatrics) - Surprise role. The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and advocates for patients and families through the healthcare system. Duties include assisting providers during patient visits, interviewing patients, room preparation, specimen collection and processing, medication administration, documentation in the electronic health record (EHR), and patient discharge. The role includes helping patients develop self-management goals and providing insurance, referral, and prior authorization support.
May conduct patient outreach to follow up on hospital admissions and discharges, obtain medical records, and assist patients with pharmacy/medication questions. Training and advancement through an Adelante designated skills exam and written test may occur during probation, if applicable.
The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and acts as a patient advocate. Duties include assisting providers during preparation and provision of patient visits, interviewing patients to obtain the reason for visit, room preparation, specimen collection and processing, medication administration, documentation in the EHR, and patient discharge. The Medical Assistant works with patients to develop self-management goals, provides insurance, referral, and prior authorization support, and may conduct patient outreach to follow up on hospital admissions and discharges, obtain medical records, and assist patients with pharmacy/medication questions.
Training and advancement demonstrated by completion of continuing education and a passing score on an Adelante-designated skills exam and written test; if applicable, this occurs during probation.
- Prepare for patient appointments by reviewing and updating patient records.
- Interview patients to obtain the reason for visit and document in the EHR following MA workflow protocols.
- Record vital signs according to protocol for the patient’s age.
- Prepare exam room and assist with the type of exam or procedure to be performed.
- Maintain patient confidentiality following HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Document all patient information accurately in the EHR.
- Communicate in a timely and professional manner with patients and other members of the care team.
- Follow the eight rights of drug administration and procedures for immunizations.
- Follow policies for labeling, storing, and use of medications; follow universal protocols and National Patient Safety Goals.
- Clean and sterilize instruments per protocol; knowledge of surgical and diagnostic office procedures.
- Correctly collect specimens, perform testing as indicated, and provide patient instructions for specimen collection.
- Review patient plans and educate patients on discharge instructions.
- Support additional duties as needed (e.g., translation, travel to other locations).
- Identify medications and their indications for proper utilization; work independently and with critical thinking under pressure.
- Coordinate continuity of patient care with external healthcare organizations and facilities (referrals, ongoing two-way communication).
- Promote clear communication among the care team to ensure understanding of patient care plans.
- Facilitate patient care based on standing orders and protocols.
- Collaborate with the clinical team on data collection, health outcomes, clinical audits, and program evaluation.
- Assist in clinical care by utilizing resources and developing new tools, forms, and procedures.
- Act as a mentor to Associate Medical Assistants; provide excellent customer service.
- Perform patient outreach calls as needed; meet UDS and quality-based measures.
- Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
- Ability to communicate in more than one language.
- Electronic Health Record experience.
- Other duties as requested or assigned.
