SUMMARY: Performs accounting work in support of the district’s fiscal operations. This position is responsible for analysis, reconciliation, reporting, compliance monitoring, and financial oversight across multiple funds and programs. Work requires independent judgment, technical accounting expertise, interpretation of regulations, and the ability to develop processes that ensure accuracy, internal controls, and audit readiness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs account analysis, reconciliation, and financial review for assigned funds and programs.
- Prepares, analyzes and maintains financial statements, schedules, reports, and journal entries in accordance with GAAP, Arizona Revised Statutes, and the Uniform System of Financial Records (USFR).
- Researches discrepancies, identifies root causes, and implements corrective actions and process improvements.
- Monitors expenditures and revenues for various funds that may include grants, benefits trust, and student activities, to ensure compliance with federal, state, and district requirements.
- Develops and maintains internal controls and accounting procedures to safeguard district assets and ensure audit readiness.
- Reviews and approves transactions, reimbursements, and expense requests for accuracy, allowability, and compliance.
- Assists with internal and external audits, including preparation of schedules, documentation, and responses to auditor inquiries.
- Prepares financial projections, analyses, and reports to support decision-making and leadership planning.
- Participates in development, documentation, and improvement of fiscal processes and systems.
- Provides support and guidance to departments and site staff regarding financial procedures, coding, compliance, and reporting.
- Leads or facilitates training for staff on financial procedures and compliance requirements.
- Establishes and maintains good rapport with students, employees, community members, and vendors.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality, ethical standards, and professional conduct.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Required:
Associates degree (AA) in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related - Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Accounting, Finance, or related field
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of four (4) or more years of accounting, financial support, or similar duties required
- Experience performing account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and compliance monitoring required
- School district or governmental accounting experience preferred
LICENSING /
CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid Level I Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC)
- School Finance Officer (SFO) Certification preferred
COMPUTER
SKILLS:
- Advanced Excel skills required
- Experience with school finance/accounting software systems;
School ERP Pro preferred - Ability to work with financial databases, reporting tools, and automated systems
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Financial analysis and reporting techniques,
- Applicable Federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations related to public school finance
- GAAP and internal control practices
- Uniform System of Financial Records (USFR)
- Customer service principles
