About The Role

The Senior Network Engineer plays a key role in the design, deployment, and operation of Nscale’s high-performance networking platforms that underpin both internal systems and the customer-facing GPU cloud. This role sits between mid-level and principal engineers, combining strong hands‑on technical delivery with growing architectural ownership and influence.

You will contribute to network architecture decisions, lead complex implementations, and act as a senior escalation point (3rd/4th line) for operational issues, while working closely with Principal Engineers to evolve standards, automation, and long‑term strategy.

What You’ll be Doing

• Design, deploy, and operate high-performance Ethernet fabrics (leaf‑spine / multi‑tier) in production environments.
• Design, deploy, and operate Infini Band networks for accelerated compute, ensuring performance, resilience, and scalability.
• Take ownership of significant network components or projects, delivering them from design through to steady‑state operations.
• Partner with deployment and procurement teams to validate network BOMs, ensuring accuracy, compatibility, and fitness‑for‑purpose.
• Provide detailed input into data centre layouts and rack elevations, ensuring reference architectures are implemented consistently.
• Lead troubleshooting and performance analysis across Ethernet and Infini Band fabrics, resolving complex issues and contributing to root‑cause analysis and prevention.
• Build and maintain automation for network deployment and initial hardware stand‑up across multi‑vendor environments.
• Improve and extend day‑2 operations through automation, monitoring, configuration management, and lifecycle processes.
• Design, implement, and support WAN connectivity, contributing to standards for resilience, security, and performance.
• Act as a technical mentor to mid‑level engineers, supporting skill development and promoting best practices.

About You

• Strong, hands‑on experience designing, deploying, and operating high‑speed Ethernet networks, including VLANs, LACP, MLAG, BGP, OSPF, EVPN, and VXLAN in production.
• Proven experience operating Infini Band networks for HPC or AI workloads, including configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting (e.g. Subnet Managers, QoS, RDMA).
• Solid understanding of WAN technologies and routing design, including MPLS, BGP, IPSec, GRE, and SD‑WAN.
• Good knowledge of HPC/AI networking topologies such as Fat‑Tree and Rail, and their impact on performance and failure domains.
• Strong automation skills using Python and/or Bash, with experience applying software engineering principles to infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of network hardware and optics, enabling effective BOM contribution and hardware‑level troubleshooting.
• Comfortable working across teams and vendors, with the ability to influence technical outcomes without formal authority.
