An established acute care hospital in the greater Dallas–Fort Worth region of Texas is seeking an experienced Nursing Director – Surgical Services to lead its perioperative operations.

The Nursing Director – Surgical Services (Director of Perioperative Services) is accountable for the clinical, operational, and fiscal performance of all designated perioperative units. This executive-level leader partners with hospital leadership, physicians, and frontline teams to ensure safe, high-quality surgical care while advancing operational excellence and strategic goals.

Position Overview

This Director is responsible for executing short- and long-term strategies aligned with organizational priorities while ensuring compliance with regulatory and professional standards of clinical care. The role maintains full accountability for staffing, quality, safety, service, financial performance, and overall clinical excellence within Surgical Services.

The Director also supports clinical managers through Evidence-Based Leadership practices, strengthens nursing professional practice, and serves as an administrative resource for physician and patient concerns.

Key Responsibilities Strategic & Operational Leadership
  • Provide leadership to managers and frontline professional staff within Surgical Services
  • Oversee performance and results of multiple perioperative teams
  • Develop long-term plans aligned with hospital strategy and operationalize execution
  • Communicate priorities, monitor progress, and implement course corrections as needed
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives impacting hospital-wide operations
Clinical Quality & Regulatory Oversight
  • Ensure compliance with all standards of care and regulatory requirements
  • Lead regulatory readiness preparation efforts
  • Oversee performance improvement initiatives
  • Facilitate policy and procedure development, review, and revision
  • Promote shared governance and evidence-based practice
Financial Management
  • Establish and manage departmental budgets
  • Analyze financial performance and justify variances
  • Coach leadership team on utilization and resource management
  • Maintain accountability for fiscal outcomes
  • Oversee vendor relationships as appropriate
Leadership Development & Engagement
  • Mentor clinical managers in budgeting, personnel management, and change initiatives
  • Conduct performance appraisals of direct reports
  • Facilitate unit and hospital-wide meetings
  • Address physician/staff concerns and patient grievances in an administrative capacity
  • Strengthen physician and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Support professional development and continuing education initiatives

Qualifications

Required:

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current AHA BLS certification
  • Minimum 5 years of nursing management experience
  • At least 2 years of surgical nursing experience
  • 3–5 years of leadership experience at Manager level or above
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer proficiency

Preferred:

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
  • Multilingual capabilities
